YouTube earnings calculator

YouTube doesn't pay a fixed amount per view: it pays according to RPM, what you earn per 1000 views after its share. Enter your views and your RPM (or keep the example) and we'll give you an estimate.

How YouTube calculates what you earn

YouTube doesn't pay a fixed amount per view. What you get is measured with RPM (revenue per 1000 views): it already deducts YouTube's share and also counts views where no ad was shown. That's why two channels with the same views can earn very different amounts.

Earnings = views ÷ 1000 × RPM

RPM changes mainly because of:

  • Your audience's country. Advertisers pay more to reach some countries than others.
  • The channel's topic. Finance, technology or education usually have better-paid ads than general entertainment.
  • The time of year. In the months with more shopping (November and December) ads pay better.
  • The format. Long videos with several ad breaks earn more per view than Shorts.

Before earning with ads you have to join the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.

FAQ

How much does YouTube pay per 1000 views?

What you earn per 1000 views is your RPM, and it changes a lot depending on your audience's country, the channel's topic, the time of year and the type of video. You can see it in YouTube Studio, under the Revenue tab. The calculator uses an example RPM you can replace with yours.

What do I need to monetize on YouTube?

To join the Partner Program with ads, YouTube requires 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.

What's the difference between RPM and CPM?

CPM is what advertisers pay per 1000 ads shown. RPM is what reaches you per 1000 views, after YouTube's share and counting views without ads. RPM is what you use to calculate your earnings.

Do Shorts pay the same?

No. Shorts share revenue differently and their RPM is usually much lower than that of long videos. If your channel is about Shorts, use the Shorts RPM you see in YouTube Studio.
